Gallery Interactives & Survey Stations

Gardens & Museums IT have significant experience in the provision, support, and maintenance of Gallery Interactives, offering flexible and suitable solutions with a variety of technologies.

We can assist with the procurement and configuration of hardware, or just the configuration if suitable hardware already exists, and help to make your digital application or video work in the best possible manner, looking to implement automations, such as turn on and off, and auto-load, where possible. Device and application security is factored into each configuration, to ensure that the device is safe to use, and the application is backed up and secure.

The technologies which we have experience of and can configure are listed below. And if you need assistance with a current Gallery Interactive, or have a new requirement please get in touch via it@museums.ox.ac.uk .

Gardens & Museums IT can provide small Dell Windows Computers, which can be configured through a number of automations to automatically turn on and load an application or video on boot, and then turn itself off at the end of the day. This offers an efficient, flexible and zero-touch solution to Gallery Interactives and Survey Stations.

Gardens & Museums IT operate a Managed Apple iPad OS service, which allows Apple iPads to be safely and securely provisioned for use in gallery spaces as either Interactives or Survey Stations. To offer flexibility the iPads can be configured in two modes to cover instances where devices are supervised, and instances where they aren’t, and can be provisioned with automations to improve the efficiency of the solution.

Gardens & Museums IT have helped set up and connect OneLAN net-top boxes for display signage and interactives. These can be configured to automatically show things at specified times of the day, with multiple different layouts, presentations and movies being supported.

OneLAN devices can be controlled either standalone for one off deployments, or through a central Content Management Service (CMS) which allows the control and management of each net-top box from a single point, which reduces the time and effort spent changing and reloading presentations/movies on respective signage and interactives.

Gardens & Museums IT can support the use of BrightSign boxes. These currently operate in a standalone function, though also support CMS like OneLAN does. They are a quick and easy method of setting exhibitions up, due to not requiring an internet connection (if being used standalone) and can play content through the use of an SD card.
